What happens to a light bulb that is always on, for days on end? If you said, it burns out you are correct. The best thing to do is flip the switch, turn it off, and give it a rest.

Similar to this example, we too, need a rest day here and there. It is easy for us to get burned out quickly when we don’t have time to recurperate or relax. You may find yourself overly frustrated, trouble thinking straight or sorting your thoughts.

I do not know how many times I have worked myself and pushed harder because I needed to get to my goal, and finding myself mentally crashing. Understand that most of the time our goals will always be there but if we do not properly take care of ourselves we won’t be able to accomplish them in the time frame we’d like. Though it may not be one of the easiest task to begin, it sure will help in the long run. There are many ways to include self-care and rest in your daily schedules. However, since this is your life, finding the perfect self-care regimen is completely up to you.

You don’t have to worry about what other people are doing and thinking of your choices because the self-care that you do is tailored specifically for you and if it brings joy in your life continue on. whether that looks like laying in bed all day binge-watching that addicting Netflix show or taking a candle-lit rose watered bath. Whatever you do that makes you feel like you again do it because when it’s time to turn back on your metaphoric light, you’ll need to be fully charged so you can take on the day and week ahead.

So listen to your body, sometimes it will whisper waiting for you to realize it’s time for that rest day. While other times it will shout in the middle of your work day. Taking a break/rest is fine, it’s needed to stay successful on your life journey. Dont feel or believe that fliping the light switch off is a bad thing, thats far from the truth. If you are going to become the best version of yourself, this begins with taking care of yourself.
