Walk to The Beat of Your Drum

Sometimes we find ourselves focusing on what others think of us, what others say about us, or what others believe our abilities are. We get wrapped in the idea that other people have the power to define us or our choices, but this is the complete opposite. We, you and I are responsible for what enters and exits our lives, not the strangers we see on social media, not our friends, and definitely not our family members. Our opinions, beliefs, thoughts, values, principles, and ethics are developed and maintained by us. So, why is it so easy for us to depend on other people to tell us who we are and what we should be doing with our life? We have been programmed to see one version of a beautiful life and think that is the only option of being happy and having joy. However, having happiness and joy comes from more within.

You have to walk to the beat of your own drum because there's no other way to live. Once you figure this out, everything begins to fall in line. Everything begins to feel right and that is where joy and happiness lie. This is not to say that joy and happiness cannot be found in the places or mind states where others say, but if it's not where your heart is pushing you, it might not be giving you the satisfaction you actually deserve.

Understand that we are the bosses of our lives, we are given the free will to remove and add people into our lives. We are in control of how we choose to emotionally respond to certain people, places, and things. You have to do the work no matter how hard it gets because moving at your own pace and not of everyone else's will feel amazing. Trust me, it's not easy finding your own beat at first, but when you find it, no other music will sound better.

When you are speaking and living in your truth it's important to know that yes, you can be blunt and straightforward with what you have to say and how you choose to live your life but also be kind because people too are learning to walk to the beat of their drums as well and everyone's songs will sound completely different.

To find and create who you are, you must spend the majority of your time alone. Heal from past or present traumas, and learn to love the moment your in because you won't get it back. Sometimes we take the current moment we have for granted but, we will never get this time back so it's best we make the most of it. Most important, give yourself grace. The most beautiful things take time to grow and become so when you are learning of who you are give yourself grace that it's okay to take five steps forward and two steps back because you started and are still in the game.

I absolutely love this! What sticks out the most is spending more time alone and healing from past and present trauma. I think that time alone makes the healing process go more smoothly. I think more people should follow the mantra of “walking to the beat of your own drum”. I believe people who live their life for themselves are happier. This inspires me to continue walking in my own purpose and not losing sight by focusing too much on other people’s opinions.
